It’s official y’all! Five years and a few months after we started dating, Dani proposed! On a very cold December day (the 27th to be exact), we drove out to the Utah Salt Flats with some of our family for a “photoshoot”. I’ll never forget Dani’s nervous smile, and how his mom had to sneak the ring into his back pocket while we were taking photos because he didn’t want me to see it (you can see a little clip of that in the YouTube video). I’m not even 100% sure that I said yes because I kind of blacked out (I heard that this happens a lot to people hahaha).
Afterwards, we celebrated with Chick-Fil-A (if you know us, you know we are big fans so while most people would prefer something fancy, this was our choice!!!), and then had a big party with our friends and family. It was perfect, and honestly the best Christmas gift I could have asked for.

The funny thing is though, like most things in life, the proposal did not go to plan (which I obviously found out all about this after the fact). Poor Dani had quite the time planning the proposal!
First, about a month or two out I told him “if we do get engaged over the holidays, I want to make sure it’s not on December 24th” (this is a long story but trust me, I have my reasons haha). OF COURSE Dani had planned the proposal for that day, so he frantically had to rethink through a new plan.
Then, four days before the proposal, the videographer CANCELLED. Luckily, my little brother is a film major and was able to fill in.
Dani was stuck on how to get me dressed up and to a cool location. However, I was the one who actually pitched the idea! xD I love the Utah Salt Flats because they are vast and provide a beautiful backdrop for photos. We’ve done family photos out there before (it’s 2ish hours from the city where I grew up), so I suggested going out there and dressing up for some photos.
So, of course, we drive 2-2.5 hours out there AND THE SALT FLATS ARE FLOODED. It just looked like a giant lake. There was no where to stand or even walk from the parking lot. So, we hopped back in the car, and stopped right on the side of the road where the light looked nice and there was enough space for us to actually stand away from the road.
It was such a beautiful moment, and I’m so glad that we had our family surrounding us for it. After the proposal, we headed back to Salt Lake to celebrate with more family and friends.
I’m so excited that Dani and I are officially engaged. Let the wedding planning begin! 🙂
