I just finished up an incredible semester abroad and I wanted to share with you all my favorite “eats” in Amsterdam. There is something here for every budget and palate, from cafes to bars to sit down restaurants!
1. Coffee & Coconuts
This is my favorite cafe in all of Amsterdam mostly because of the fun, laid back atmosphere and variety of seating options. The food isn’t my favorite but they have amazing cakes (try the coconut lime bread!). This was one of my favorite places to study throughout the semester. They even have bean bags!
2. Door 74 Bar
This “hidden” speakeasy bar is great for a nicer occasion as it is pretty pricey. We went to celebrate my friend’s 21st birthday and it was perfect! They have some really funky and fun cocktails that you definitely should check out. This was my first time visiting a “speakeasy” bar and it was quite cool.
3. Mook Pancakes
Apart from being incredibly “Instagrammable” (see below), these pancakes are incredible and the atmosphere of Mook is hip and bright. They also have fresh squeezed juices! This is the perfect place for a pancake lover.
4. Sumo Sushi
I am usually not a huge fan of “all you can eat” restaurants but this place is an exception. If you love all you can eat sushi (and other small dishes), you will love Sumo! If you want to save a little bit of money, go during lunch for a cheaper all you can eat price.
5. The Butcher
I had the best burger of my life at The Butcher. Make sure to get the fries as well! There are a few different locations throughout Amsterdam and this place is great for a quick dinner or lunch.
6. Van Stapele Cookies
If you visit one place in Amsterdam, let this be it! This cookie store sells only one type of cookie (don’t worry, it is absolutely incredible) and there is usually a line out of the door! They are best warm but taste pretty dang amazing hours later too.
7. Pepper Mango
This gelato store is incredible and affordable! My favorite flavors (shown below) are blood orange, lemoncello and watermelon. This makes a perfect stop during a warm day in Amsterdam!
8. Casa Nostra
If you are an Italian fan, definitely check out Casa Nostra. All of their pasta is homemade. This is the perfect little romantic restaurant located in De Pijp, one of my favorite neighborhoods in Amsterdam.
9. Campo di Fiori
Located near the city center, Campo di Fiori is the perfect Italian spot to celebrate a birthday or special occasion. It is larger than Casa Nostra (#8) meaning it is better for larger groups. It is also really close to the Door 74 Bar (#2) if you want to make a night of it!
10. Restaurant La Luna
If you are in the mood for a nice Argentine steak dinner, this is the place to go! It has a nice, cozy atmosphere and the staff is absolutely wonderful!
I hope you are able to try out some of my suggestions if you ever visit Amsterdam! Let me know in the comments below if you have ever visited Amsterdam or plan to in the future!
