When I decided to study abroad during the Fall semester, I knew that I would have to visit the German Christmas markets in late November or December. Luckily, Dani (my boyfriend-pictured above), decided to visit during his Thanksgiving break and he was down to take a little getaway to Hamburg for a few days.
The Christmas Markets were divine. Sweet smells of mulled wine, bratwurst and crêpes filled the cold, winter air. Everywhere you looked, there were little Christmas trinkets and crafts for sale. The atmosphere was warm, fun and uplifting. It was truly magical.
In fact, Dani and I loved the Christmas markets so much that we visited every single one we could find in the city of Hamburg. If you are visiting, make sure to check out this site which will give you the full list.
I absolutely adore the Christmas season and being able to visit these fairytale Christmas markets was really a dream come true. It was a bit weird not being in the USA for Thanksgiving, but being able to ring in the holiday season by wandering the markets with Dani was perfect and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Normally I do a whole trip recap for each new place that I visit but the truth is, Dani and I were pretty sick while we were there and the majority of what we did outside of the Christmas markets, I did not photograph! Hope you will forgive me 😉
Here is a little video I made that captured some of the Christmas Market magic:

What a great weekend trip!! Would you be able to write a post about how you budgeted/how much you spent on study abroad? I’m studying abroad next year and it would be super helpful to have a rough estimate!
