Susanna and Chris are one of the most genuine and kind-hearted couples I’ve met. Their engagement session happened on an overcast January day at Lake Chabot, near the Oakland Zoo. This location was gorgeous, but because it was such a warm winter day, it was also PACKED. We had to be super strategic about how we positioned them, and I think we did a pretty dang good job making it look like it was just the two of them in this gorgeous lake spot.
I knew from our initial meeting that I would connect really well with these two—and that’s actually something that is really important to me. I want to show up to my couple’s wedding days as their friends, not just their vendor. Chris and I immediately bonded over the fact that we grew up in the same place (Salt Lake City), and Susanna immediately won my heart when she told me she brought snacks for us (and me!). It was such a thoughtful gesture.
After our session, we grabbed ice cream in the closest town over. Usually, this is the point when I put away my camera, treat my couples to dessert, and get to know them better. This is such a fun part of this process for me because I get to truly connect with my couples and learn more about what matters most to them, not just at their wedding, but in their lives.
But this night, I couldn’t help but pull out my camera again when I saw this spot. It was the perfect place to take some post ice-cream pictures, and end the night on an even brighter note.
Stay tuned for their fall wedding in the Bay Area, I cannot wait already!
