Last year, I had the incredible opportunity to study abroad in the Netherlands. Throughout my five months in Europe, I traveled to fifteen different countries (with Amsterdam being my “home base”) and learned quite a lot about budget travel, packing and how to live without a big chunk of my closet. I’ve written in the past how I only brought one suitcase abroad but I’ve never shared WHAT I brought. Today, I am so excited to share with you how I traveled light without sacrificing fashion. I will be showing you four different outfits that I brought with me that proved to be staples, regardless of where I was and what the weather was. I am going to be sharing REAL photos from my time abroad with outfits that I wore–I hope it provides some packing inspiration!
A lot of people have asked me how I traveled to fifteen countries on a student budget and my go-to recommendation is always to use StudentUniverse. Outfit 1: Long sleeve shirt + vest + jeans
This was my “go-to” travel outfit. It allowed me to wear my bulky vest (therefore saving bag space) while also staying comfy and warm on the plane. I layered A LOT when I was traveling because some places I visited were cold in the morning/evening but warmer during the day.

Outfit 2: Comfy dress + open sweater + leggings
This dress was hands down the best thing I brought abroad. I took it to almost every country I visited because it was so versatile. I could wear it out to dinner with nice shoes or for a day of sight seeing with my comfortable walking shoes! Plus, if I wanted to “cool down” and take my leggings off, I could totally do that discretely thanks to my dress (even in the middle of a crowded street when I was touristing around).

Outfit 3: “Shirt dress” + open sweater + leggings
I loved this outfit for the fall! The “shirt dress” could really be worn as either a shirt or a dress which made it great for traveling to places with fluctuating weather (thanks layering!).

Outfit 4: T-shirt + leather jacket + comfortable pants
I ended up bringing a (fake) leather jacket at the last minute and I was really glad I did, especially for days that I didn’t need my big puffy coat! This outfit was simple but easy to bring along (and you can use the same leggings and shirt from some of the other outfits!). When packing, only bring clothes (especially pants) that are comfortable no matter how much you like them! You are going to really regret your uncomfy jeans after sitting on a train for a few hours.
